The Port of Heraklion came alive today, welcoming five cruise ships simultaneously, creating spectacular scenes across the waterfront and confirming the port’s rapid growth in the new era of the Heraklion Port Authority (HPA S.A.) under the Grimaldi Group.

The vessels Norwegian Sky, Seven Seas Grandeur, Norwegian Pearl, Celestyal Journey, and Le Dumont d’Urville brought more than 9,000 guests and crew members to the city, turning Heraklion into a vibrant hub of international cruise activity and a true point of reference in the Mediterranean.

This landmark day highlights the port’s operational readiness, flexibility, and upgraded infrastructure, all key elements that have established Heraklion as a leading cruise destination in the Eastern Mediterranean. Thousands of visitors explored the historic city center, visited Knossos Palace and the Archaeological Museum, and experienced the renowned Cretan hospitality, significantly contributing to the local economy.

Statement by Mr. Minas Papadakis, CEO of Heraklion Port Authority

“The image of five cruise ships docked simultaneously at the Port of Heraklion fills us with joy, pride, and a strong sense of responsibility.
It clearly demonstrates that the cruise sector is a vital pillar of tourism, extending the travel season and creating tangible benefits for the local community.

This October, we expect 50 cruise calls, followed by 26 calls in November. The year 2025 is set to be a record-breaking year, with approximately 550,000 passengers and 290 calls in total.

Today’s achievement is the result of teamwork, strategic planning, and the trust of international cruise lines. Heraklion has now established itself as one of the most important cruise ports in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Our port is not just a gateway — it is a living part of the city, evolving alongside it. We continue to invest in modern infrastructure, green technologies, and innovative services to ensure the best possible experience for passengers, crews, and partners alike.”
